This combines weighing, marking, and data collection into a single mobile workflow. There is no need to remove the animals from the pen, herd them, or weigh them manually.
Innovative Design
For several years now, the industry has been searching for solutions to make the digital collection and processing of weight data in livestock farming both practical and reliable. The innovative design of the pixsize-one lies in its combination of several steps—which were previously performed separately—into a single, integrated, handheld system. The device combines contactless 3D weight measurement, automatic storage of measurement data, and the integrated pixmark marking unit for immediate identification of the animal that was just weighed. Furthermore, the measurement does not require a fixed perspective but can be performed flexibly within the herd. A measurement takes between 0.25 and 0.35 minutes. In addition, the system enables digital processing via export formats or a documented interface. This results in a new type of process for recording animal weights in swine production that can be used entirely digitally.

What is the current state of the art?
The current state of the art in many pig finishing operations relies on a combination of estimation, manual selection, and weighing individual animals on stationary scales. This process requires animals to be removed from the group, driven to the scale, weighed there, and then returned to the pen. In addition, separate marking is often required, which means that several steps must be carried out sequentially and frequently by two people. This process is time-consuming, physically demanding, and logistically complex. Depending on the precision of the plant management, the time required ranges from 1.7 to 2.2 minutes per animal delivered. In addition, data discontinuities can occur when measurement values are transferred manually or recorded digitally at a later time.
What are the special features/benefits?
The unique features of the pixsize-one lie in its impact on workflow efficiency, animal welfare, and data quality. The use of the pixsize-one improves decision-making. The time required per animal is reduced from approximately 1.7 to 2.2 minutes (field studies) to 0.25 to 0.35 minutes (15–25 seconds). This noticeably eases the workload and reduces physically demanding tasks such as herding, separating, and returning animals. . A single person is sufficient for weighing and tagging.
At the same time, stress, agitation, and the risk of injury to both humans and animals are reduced, as there is no need to move or restrain the animals. Workplace safety is significantly improved. The integration with an RFID ear tag and the automatic storage of the collected data enhance process and production reliability and prevent data entry errors. In addition, precise optical image capture can be used to further determine production-related data.
